Open an Etsy shop! This is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time but I never really got the chance to sit down and plan it out… until now! What I want to sell on testy is downloadable print files. I got the idea when I was looking for art to put on the walls of my dorm room. I looked on Etsy and saw that people were selling art in a digital form. Here is what Im talking about. After the buyer makes the purchase it is up to them to get the file printed to get it framed as well. That means that the only thing an artists has to worry about is making the actual art. I thought that this would be a great idea because it is simple and almost free to make. Or at least I thought…
For my first listing I made this on photoshop:
The first problem I ran into was that the photo of the pug that I downloaded from Pexel was for person use and not commercial use and if I were to make money off of it I could be sued. Secondly, Etsy wanted me to include a picture of a “styled scene” on the listing. Here’s what tis would look like:
It’s basically a picture of how my art would look hanging up in someone’s house. I thought this would be easy, I find a mockup and use photoshop to place my image into the mockup. However, after a quick Google search I realized that there was a huge market for this sort of thing.
After running into these errors I realized that there are two things I need to do to start my business:
- Figure out a way to find pictures that are legal to use in my art.
- Find out how to properly use a mockup
